- Voyage: Brilliant Lady's seven-night Mexican Riviera sailing from Los Angeles on Saturday, Oct. 3.
- Weather: Virgin's September 30 update says Rachel has strengthened into a hurricane and remains near the ship's planned route by Baja California Sunday night into Monday.
- Itinerary: Virgin has prepared an alternate route, but says no reroute decision has been made. Another update is expected October 1.
- Packing: Virgin recommends bringing extra layers and a light jacket in case the alternate route includes cooler destinations.
Virgin Voyages posted the advisory September 29 and updated it September 30 after Rachel strengthened from a tropical storm into a hurricane. The current itinerary would bring Brilliant Lady near Baja California while sailing toward Cabo San Lucas, close enough that Virgin says it is planning ahead.
The published schedule still shows Los Angeles departure on Oct. 3, followed by a sea day, Cabo San Lucas on Oct. 5, Mazatlán on Oct. 6, Puerto Vallarta on Oct. 7, two sea days, and a return to Los Angeles on Oct. 10. Virgin also says Rachel could curve farther into the Pacific and away from the voyage.
That means the current itinerary is still the official plan, while the alternate route is contingency planning. Fruglar is not treating the advisory as confirmation that any port has been removed or replaced.
