Virgin Updates Level Upgrade Bid Rules

The new terms spell out how accepted bids interact with your original fare choice, payment, and cabin assignment.

Quick take
  • Who can bid: eligible booked Sailors invited by email or confirmed through Virgin's eligibility checker.
  • Bid deadline: modify or cancel up to 72 hours before departure if Virgin has not accepted the offer.
  • Decision timing: Virgin says outcomes arrive no later than 48 hours before sailing.
  • Payment: the accepted per-cabin bid is charged immediately and is generally final and non-refundable.

Virgin Voyages' Level Upgrade program lets selected booked Sailors offer an additional per-cabin amount for a higher cabin category. Eligibility is limited, an invitation does not guarantee acceptance, and Virgin can choose which voyages and cabin levels participate.

The September 24 terms add an important fare-choice explanation: in most upgrades, the policy and perks from the VoyageFair Choice originally booked carry into the new cabin. If a lower cabin is upgraded into RockStar or Mega RockStar Quarters, Virgin says the booking instead follows the policy and perks of that suite category. A successful cabin-to-suite bid includes the suite amenities.

That makes the bid price only one part of the decision. An accepted offer does not guarantee a specific cabin number, nearby cabins for linked reservations, or extra promotions that would have applied if the higher category had been booked from the start.

Before acceptance

Multiple cabin-category bids can remain open, but Virgin will charge only one accepted offer. Future Voyage Credits cannot pay the bid, and a $1 authorization hold may appear when the offer is submitted.

After acceptance

Virgin charges the full offer immediately. If the card is declined, the Sailor has 24 hours to resubmit, but the same cabin category and acceptance are not guaranteed.

If plans change

Changing voyages after acceptance does not require Virgin to preserve the upgrade or refund the bid. Refunds are narrowly limited, including certain Virgin-cancelled or re-accommodated voyages.

Cabin placement

The upgrade is to a category, not a chosen cabin number. Groups in separate bookings are not guaranteed nearby upgraded cabins.

What this means before you bid

Compare the all-in bid with the live price to change cabins directly, then value the fare rules you keep—not the fare rules you assume come with the new room. Virgin controls eligibility and acceptance, and the September 24 terms govern the live program.
